Aerojet Rocketdyne Assembly and Test Inspector in Jupiter, Florida


Aerojet Rocketdyne offers a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles ranging from missile defense to advanced hypersonic propulsion. These products have been used in a wide variety of government and commercial applications, including the main engines for the Space Shuttle, Atlas and Delta launch vehicles, and High Altitude Defense Systems.

We are seeking an Assembly and Test Inspector , to perform a variety of inspection duties in the assembly and test areas relative to the assembly and testing of space propulsion and turbine engine components, subassemblies, rigs and testing for conformance to all requirements. Verify that assembly work performed is done in conformance with all requirements and does not endanger the safety of the engine.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Under direction of Supervision, Working Leader or higher graded Inspector, follow general instructions, drawings, manuals and other specifications, to plan, document and lay out material requirements; witness, verify, document and monitor component and/or engine assembly; determine sequence of operations; and obtain the tools and equipment necessary to meet schedules.

Monitor, witness, document and review the inspection, assembly and testing of turbine engine and space propulsion components, ensuring all requirements are met.

Participate on special projects when required, with co-workers, supervisors, engineers, suppliers, customers and service groups to review, install or modify equipment and procedures, ensuring customer requirements are met.

Visually inspect space propulsion and turbine engine components, subassemblies, rigs and individual parts for anomalies such as errors in paperwork or obvious physical damage, including broken or improper safety wiring, nicks, dents or other damage and ensure that all openings are covered when required.

Inspect engines and components for foreign objects and check test stands for surplus parts, hardware or loose debris. Perform necessary dimensional and visual inspections and verify measurements.

Recognize and disposition non-conforming material in accordance with requirements. Refer variances to higher graded Inspector or Supervisor.

Conduct audits when required and report findings.

Refer difficulties to supervisor, working leader, or higher graded inspector.

Maintain and review logs, records, systems, build and test sheets and prepare reports as required. May be assigned to carry out tasks not specifically listed within scope and skill level of this job description in support of department objectives and to develop individuals' skills.

May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications for assigned area.


Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent. Desired: 2-3 Year Technical Certificate or Trade School or equivalent. Also desired is an A&P license.

The level at which the successful candidate will be employed is dependent on the skills, experience and knowledge they possess. (Position level will be filled based on education and experience of identified candidate.)

Requires the use of precision measuring instruments and test inspection equipment as well as input information into computer and other tracking systems.

Requires well rounded knowledge of applied mathematics including, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and handbook formulae to read and interpret drawings, specifications and complicated sketches. Basic computer skills and the ability to navigate through manufacturing and quality systems.

Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard manufacturing, as well as office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Employees in these classifications require specificvisual acuity based on National Aerospace Standard: near vision 20/25(Snellen) at 16” +/- (2.54 cm) or equivalent in at least one eye, natural or corrected color perception. Employees should be capable of adequately distinguishing and differentiating colors used in the involved process.
