Summary:

Facebook is seeking a Fire Alarm/Fire Protection Engineer to join the Global Technical Strategy (GTS) team within the Data Center Design (DCD) organization. In this role, you will provide fire alarm and fire protection engineering subject matter expertise and leadership for Data Center designs and systems with the goal of deploying concepts at scale in a global environment. Facebook’s DCD Global Technical Strategy Team is comprised of in-house engineers and architects working on the mid-stage technical evaluation of new data center building concepts, prototypes, and technologies. We also support New Build teams in first of kind execution. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates enabling innovation for the company. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The Data Center Design (DCD) team approaches facility design beginning with understanding the requirements of the chips on the server boards and then designing the facility mechanical and electrical distribution systems, along with all other building components, to ensure and maximize efficiency of our compute infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong independent work skills and a strong background in all aspects of Fire Alarm systems and Fire Protection typologies and components for Data Center/Mission Critical environments on a global scale. A thorough understanding of interdependent disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, and controls, is strongly desired. This person shall be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and be a self-starter that can excel with little direction. You should be comfortable being the sole resource and resident expert for your discipline.

Required Skills:

  1. Provide leadership and technical expertise for the Fire Alarm/Fire Protection engineering discipline across the entire organization

  2. Be the Fire Alarm/Fire Protection lead in the technical evaluation of first-of-kind concepts and prototypes for Data Center critical infrastructure systems

  3. Contribute to global change management and standardization of Fire Alarm/Fire Protection related efforts

  4. Work with and direct efforts of consulting engineers, including authoring scopes of work and reviewing proposals. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to define project design criteria and standards for new design concepts

  5. Review, edit, and contribute to design standards, specifications, commissioning scripts, and Facilities Operations’ guides (MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, etc.)

  6. Support GTS team management in the development of project briefs, budgets, presentations, and complex business case analyses
