Equipment Mechanic I: Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Equipment Mechanic II: Performs advanced repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in a District Maintenance Section. Inspects work performed by shop mechanics or contracted vendors. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Equipment Mechanic I Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systemsAssists in the handling and disposal of environmentally hazardous materials used in the automotive tradeChecks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights, and parking lightsCompletes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into computer information systemMaintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridgesOrders, picks up and delivers parts, materials, tools, and operates equipment and vehicles to include heavy equipmentPerforms acetylene and electric arc welding repairsPerforms emergency spot repairsPerforms preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required, moves items related to these activitiesTroubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electric ignitions, and fuel injection systemsPerforms other job responsibilities as assignedEquipment Mechanic II will perform the duties listed above and also:Trains less experienced technicians
