Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is seeking an Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer to work in its Power Delivery Substation Department in Joplin, Missouri. The Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the department's goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to:

  • One-line diagrams

  • Schematics

  • Wiring diagrams

  • SCADA

  • Communications

  • Station physical layouts

  • Sections/Elevations

  • Cable and conduit plans and details

  • Ground grid design and details

  • Foundation plans and details

  • Structural plans and details

  • Control enclosure design and details

  • Lightning protection plans

  • Yard lighting plans

  • Bills of Materials

  • Site visits

  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.

  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.

  • Occasional travel.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, preferably with a power option from an accredited university.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on.

  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be willing and able to work effectively and efficiently in a remote work environment when required.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • At least three months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; this could be on an internship or co-op basis.

  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).

  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design.

  • Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

DOE Salary: The pay range for this position is $65-75k per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
