Position Summary:
The academic advisor supports advising services for the College of Liberal Arts and Communication.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Academic Advisor for the College of Liberal Arts and Communication supports high quality academic advising practices for specific units within the college and manages related duties:
Provides academic advising to students with majors housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Communication or other areas as identified by University College
Coordinates interactions with faculty mentors
Oversees degree evaluations, check sheets, referrals, and other advising-related tasks
Stays abreast of program requirements
Supports student retention and outreach initiatives as well as serves on the campus-wide advising committee
Represents the college at new student orientations, recruitment events and college programs
May teach first year experience course(s) for the unit as needed
Assists with the CLAC Student Resource Center
Other duties as assigned
Academic advising and all primary responsibilities of this position are supervised by University College. Other assigned duties may report to the college for which this position is housed.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent computer skills
Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to interact positively with faculty, staff, students, and community members
Ability to adapt and understand university policies and procedures
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Occasional Saturday or evening hours
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
Experience in advising or retention programs preferred
