About the Position: This position is with the U.S Army Sustainment Command, 404TH Army Field Support Brigade, Logistic Readiness Center, Supply and Services Division, located in JBLM, WA. Responsibilities Perform packing tasks for a wide range of items, selecting appropriate materials based on item size, weight, and/or fragility. Construct custom containers such as crates and/or support structures to protect sensitive or oversized items during transport/storage. Organize warehouse stock by receiving, storing, and/or issuing items, ensuring accurate records/locations. Prepare shipment documentation according to regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with shipping and/or handling standards. Operate warehouse equipment to safely transport, stack, and/or store items. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Packer without more than normal supervision. Perform common packer tasks, including following basic instructions for packing standard items, organizing warehouse stock by location, and using basic tools and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Grade 4 packers perform work on hard surfaces and in areas that require frequent standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Packers at this grade frequently lift and carry parts, equipment, and packed containers that weigh up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and may be required to lift and carry, with assistance, items weighing up to 32 kilograms (70 pounds). Working Conditions: Grade 4 packers typically work in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. They occasionally work outside or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. The work is sometimes dusty, dirty, and greasy. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. When working with packing foams or various types of preservatives, grade 4 packers may be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants, and flammable chemicals. In certain work situations involving hazardous materials, grade 4 packers wear protective clothing, respirators, and other specialized protective devices, in addition to their basic protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses and shoes, and ear plugs). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Logistics Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 13 Months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
