Summary The incumbent serves as a Podiatrist under the immediate supervision of the Chief, Podiatry within Surgery Service. He/she will maintain licensure and credentials sufficient to extend to the incumbent the authority to practice Podiatric Medicine inclusive of all diagnostic and medical therapeutic modalities for the treatment of diseases, conditions and injuries related to the field. Incumbent will perform Podiatric Surgical Procedures. Responsibilities The functions and responsibilities of the Podiatrist include, but are not limited to the following: Provide comprehensive Podiatric care services as well as follow-up care of existing conditions and management of emergency conditions within the scope of incumbent's approved clinical privileges. Provide Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Podiatric Services, including hospital rounds and coverage of the emergency room. Perform Podiatric Surgery in the Operating Room. Conduct weekly outpatient clinics Provide non-operative Podiatric hospital rounds for Podiatric patients. Debridement, pathomechanical, foot orthopedics, biomechanical, radiographic, orthotic, dennatological, and surgical procedures must be applied as elements of total patient care. Participate and contribute to podiatric resident education in the clinic and operating room. Participate and contribute to podiatric resident education via informal and formal didactic interactions. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. AND Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. AND Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Surgical training and 3 to 5 years experience preferred. Board Certification in by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine or approved equivalent preferred.
