The Senior Manager Tax and Audit supports all Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma group companies in North America from a financial, accounting, tax and auditing standpoint. The incumbent oversees internal operating controls, processes, practices (e.g., employee expense reports), and maintains financial policies and systems. With regard to taxes, the incumbent accurately prepares and files state and federal tax documents in collaboration with tax advisors, creates and implements tax plans, works with accounting and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk, monitors current and impending changes to tax regulation, and makes the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. In terms of auditing, the Senior Manager performs daily monitoring activities and temporarily unannounced audits according to existing company policies and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and manages the preparation and review of company federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms in collaboration with internal and external tax advisors (e.g., consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business-related filings).

  • Finds and implements opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.

  • Develops and implements strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.

  • Works as the liaison with tax advisors and external auditors.

  • Leads transfer pricing projects including advance pricing agreement in collaboration with HQ and tax advisors.

  • Manages and facilitates IRS and state tax audits: prepares responses, creates schedules, etc.

  • Monitors legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicates the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and creates strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.

  • Maintains effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.

  • Plans and performs financial audit on daily and temporary basis; may also conduct operational audit based on senior management’s requirements.

  • Collaborates with accounting manager on monthly financial reporting.

  • Manages stable, effective corporate credit card and financial system.

  • Develops testing methodologies to evaluate the adequacy of controls and documents the results of the evaluations.

  • Manages and mentors staff members to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.

  • Handle Branded Prescription Drug Fees and R&D Tax Credits.

  • Support tax and accounting initiatives as necessary.

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting, Finance or Business administration or MS in Taxation required.

  • 8+ years corporate tax and/or audit/accounting experience, preferably in pharmaceutical industry; experience with supervising staff is preferred.

  • Other preferred experience: broad variety of tax operations, audit methodologies and techniques, international tax and transfer pricing issues, U.S. federal and state income tax audits and compliance, and Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry background

  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP guidelines and Sarbanes-Oxley Act rules and regulations

  • Excellent knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance and all types of tax returns

  • Proactive self-starter who deals well with ambiguity and possesses proven ability to drive process improvements.

  • Strong analytical and research skills

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work well independently and also work well with stakeholders in a cross-functional team environment across multiple senior levels of management.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders while asking tough questions; can persuasively communicate the benefits of tax initiatives

  • Strong skills in SAP, Concur and MS Office

  • Willingness to Travel up to 5%.

  • No physical requirements

  • Hybrid- 1-3 day/week in the office, depending on business needs.

The salary range for this position is $112,000 - $179,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

This position is eligible to participate in our annual Short-Term Incentive (STI) program. Specific information about the plan including eligibility rules and target, will be furnished upon hire.
