Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education. Provides input into evaluation of staff performance in accordance with organization policies. Participates in nursing Quality Improvement. (S)He has the expertise in nursing professional development, education, and/or a specific area of nursing practice. (S)He is a member of the Nursing Leadership team and supports the Organization s Mission and Vision and actively participates in the shared governance process. (S)He is responsible and accountable for the development and application of the Standards of Care with Jersey City Medical Center, in an effort to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and families. The primary function is that of an educator, practitioner, consultant and change agent. Assesses data relevant to the learner s progress, and interpret the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans. Assists with unit administration, including scheduling,payroll and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Maintains and role models clinical skills necessary to provide care to patients. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. (S)He is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible to assess the educational needs of the staff on an on-going basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, educators, APNs, Management, and other healthcare providers. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey. Bachelor of Science in nursing required, MSN preferred. Successful completion of all Orientation Programs. In addition to the aforementioned skills, the Education Support Specialist must possess clinical experience, training, and education aligned with their specialty practice area of focus.Special Equipment/Skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational ability, nurse management and leadership skills. Demonstrated clinical expertise in area standards. Meets requirements as defined by applicable Department Specific Equipment Competency Checklist. Minimum of 2 years of NICU experience required. Experience in education or staff development preferred. Professional certification in Nursing Professional Development and/or clinical specialty preferred BLS Required. In collaborating with Nurse Manager, evaluates the performance and competency of all nursing staff on an ongoing basis. Collaborates with Nurse Manager and Human Resources in the interpretation and implementation of labor contracts; interview and hires employees, extends probation, recommends promotions, approves transfers and terminates in consultation with Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. Collaborates with Nurse Manager and Nursing Education and Research Department in determining group and/or individual learning needs within the unit. Uses an understanding of the principles of acute, chronic and oncology pain management to assess each patient s individual needs and provide appropriate and specific Maintains visibility and availability to staff within assigned specialty practice area of focus. Plans, facilitates, and evaluates on boarding/orientation for all staff within the department of nursing. Plans and implements educational programs that support the needs of diverse learners. 3. Actively participates in the JCMC PTAP supporting the development and successful transition of newly licensed nurses in practice. In collaboration with Nurse Manager prepares/submits statistics and maintains logs for the unit; ensures completion and reliability of unit s patient classification system.
