The anticipated salary range for this role is between $68,000.00 and $85,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC Nikko Securities America, Inc, a registered broker dealer, provides investment securities and other financial services to corporate and institutional clients, focusing on North America and Larin America. The Accounting team oversees financial reporting, regulatory reporting and management reporting functions. This position will be responsible for reporting functions such as preparation of daily reports and reconciliations while also assisting the team with month end closing and audit support.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Accounting Group, this position will be responsible for various daily and monthly reporting functions. These functions include preparation of reports and reconciliations, monitoring suspense accounts, investigate and resolve breaks as required. This position will also be expected to assist the team in the month end close process and in external and internal audits. This position will be closely working with other departments within Nikko America.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary preparer of daily and monthly Trading P&L report. Work with other back-office groups to obtain support for the reported P&L amounts.

  • Act as the primary preparer of GL to Subledger reconciliations. Investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks as required. This may include preparing correcting journal entries.

  • Monitor suspense accounts daily. Notify and assist Operations to clear the suspense balances as required.

  • Act as alternate prepare for other daily tasks such as preparation of Firm Inventory report and the review of estimate balance sheet report.

  • Perform allocated month end tasks which includes preparing journal entries and GL account reconciliations.

  • Prepare/update Accounting's Policy and Procedures related to the functions under ownership

  • Assist the team in providing requested workpapers to internal and external auditors

Qualifications and Skills

  • 0 to 2 years of comparable or relevant experience

  • Broker dealer experience is a plus

  • BA/BS required

  • MA/MS/MBA preferred

  • Microsoft Office Suite , Oracle Cloud GL Suite, Broadridge Impact, Alteryx

  • Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting process

  • Proficiency MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio). Good knowledge in analytical tools such Alteryx and Power BI is preferred

  • Strong analytic and problem solving skills; strong documentation skills; high level of urgency and deadline driven: attention to detail, accuracy and accountability

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; possesses diplomacy and displays confidence

  • A team member who is collaborative yet able to work independently

  • Knowledge of Oracle GL suite is a strong plus
