The Role
Job Summary
Immediate opening for a Director of Civil Engineering in our Jersey City, NJ location. The Director will work closely with the Executive Vice President with the operations of the department. Ensuring that projects are completed on time, and within budget and the final work product conforms to contract and project requirements, as well as meeting the work product standards set within the company. The Director must be able to be pro-active and be able to work with and direct staff within the department.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Essential Functions
Assist the Executive Vice President with communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures.
Contribute to the organization’s success by welcoming related, different, and new requests.
Provide final review of reports, letters, bids, specifications, construction drawings, exhibits, etc. written/prepared by staff.
Assist the Executive Vice President with monthly invoicing.
Delegate project work to Engineers, Project Managers & Project Associates.
Provide leadership direction through the sharing of techniques and problem-solving approaches.
Coordinate and manage internal kick-off, milestone, and closeout meetings for projects.
Continuously review the work of the department.
Verify schedules, ensure adherence to project plans and timelines to be met by internal and external resources.
Collect post-project feedback to look for issues and opportunities for improvement.
Proactively monitor success measures, work complete, schedule complete and budget complete.
Measure and monitor project performance.
Create and review project status reports.
Provide guidance and mentoring to staff.
Communicate status and issues; resolve discrepancies and problems.
Conduct on-site inspections in order to document existing conditions and perform evaluation and analysis of civil/site work related projects.
Record field measurements and perform calculations related to design of civil/site related projects.
Organize field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving.
Maintain organized records, files, drawings, or other data essential to the project and ensure they are complete and stored appropriately.
Review and understand construction plans and details.
Preparation of written correspondence with clients, attorneys, contractors, etc.
Attending on site and virtual meetings with clients, owners, contractors, and peers.
Prepare investigation reports, letters, etc. and bid documents, including drawings and technical specifications.
Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates.
Knowledge of local and state building codes, regulations and standards and ability to apply to work.
Improve job knowledge by attending educational workshops, review professional publications, establish professional network, and participate in professional societies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees designated staff within the department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Civil Engineering.
Work Experience
Seven years’ experience required in Civil or site work related Engineering field.
Licenses & Certifications
Licensed Professional Engineer.
OSHA-10 Certification preferred, otherwise must complete within three months from date of hire.
Valid United States Driver’s License required, as this position requires travel to and from client sites.
Skills
Excellent management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with clients and colleagues.
Ability to attend client meetings and events, as needed.
Ability to work overtime, as needed.
Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred.
Ability to work individually or with team members and work collaboratively with other disciplines.
Ability to work in the field and to travel outside local areas as workload and projects required.
Ability to read construction drawings.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Ability to manage time and within project budgets.
Estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 to $170,000. The salary listed is an estimate and not guaranteed. The salary offered will vary based on experience, education, skills, abilities, and certifications/license
