Organization Description

Commercial Banking is focused on helping our clients succeed and making a positive difference in our communities. We provide credit and financing, treasury and payment services, international banking and real estate services to clients including corporations, municipalities, institutions, real estate investors and owners, and nonprofit organizations.

The Emerging Middle Markets (EMM) segment focuses on clients with annual revenue of $20-$100mm. It is a priority for the CB Operating Committee, who is investing heavily in the space to gain market share.

The EMM Business Management and Strategic Execution team is an extension of the co-heads of EMM, Terry Hill and Arnold Evans, and is the connective tissue between them (and the EMM strategic direction) and the functional teams who are building products, services, and processes for EMM (e.g., Marketing, Client Servicing, Bankers, Field Leadership, Communications, Product, Pricing).

Position Overview

The EMM Business Management Associate is a highly visible position and will be filled by a candidate with excellent analytical and financial skills, strong verbal and written communications skills, exceptional drive and energy, hands-on experience in banking, strategy and business development, and the organizational agility to influence decisions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide tactical and strategic assistance to help drive the EMM business

  • Identify connections between EMM business opportunities / challenges and underlying data (e.g., sales metrics, banker activities, campaigns, initiatives)

  • Support business management team to develop, implement and execute key reporting to be leveraged by all levels within MMBSI, as well as senior management in CB and senior partners across the firm

  • Identify areas for continued process improvement and enhance efficiencies by generating innovative ideas and solutions

  • Prepare presentation materials to be shared with management, business groups and other relevant stakeholders

Able to outline work process in a thoughtful and detailed manner. Intellectually curious with a genuine interest in knowledge gathering and problem solving

  • Technical and analytical skills - Able to produce accurate, error-free analysis. Understand business drivers and ensure that the team's analyses are sound. Capable of synthesizing large amounts of data in Excel and from internal systems to develop strategic conclusions

  • Execution and project management skills - Well-developed organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities. Able to quickly and effectively respond to rapidly changing business needs and urgent requests. Must be self-directed with the ability to explore innovative ways to perform tasks in an efficient and timely manner. Must be proactive, high energy, detail and results-oriented, and willing to drive change.

  • Communications skills - Possess strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to synthesize "the story" for executive-level audiences and adjust messages and style based on different audiences and agendas

  • Leadership and interpersonal skills - Strong professional presence with the ability to communicate directly with MMBSI leadership, executives, and bankers. Must be able to interact and influence colleagues at all levels in the business. Able to collaborate with peer team members across business and staff areas to achieve goals without direct control over all resources. Proactively seeks guidance, clarification and feedback from others.


  • 4+ years of relevant work experience

  • Previous banking, management consulting, or equivalent experience preferred

  • Business management, financial reporting, analytics or strategy experience preferred

  • Expertise in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with internal JPMC systems is a plus

  • Bachelor's Degree required
