ASHTABULA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Department of Environmental Services Planner I JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general supervision of the Director, the Planner I will: • Provide information on planning, land use, and zoning to the various audiences • Prepare cases for inclusion on the Planning Commission agenda • Meet with the public, developers, and surveyors regarding subdivision designs, review subdivision plans, ensure compliance with subdivision regulations • Review and coordinate plan approval with other agencies; review amendments to existing and proposed legislation and recommend action to be taken • Project management, preparing and submitting grant proposals, and monitoring department and contractor activities. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Zoning, Urban Studies, Public Administration, Surveying, Engineering, or related field; two (2) to four (4) years training and/or experience in planning, zoning, community development, economic development, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. An Ohio Driver's License shall be maintained. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED: • Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning • Ability to work independently to move problems toward a solution • Strong research skills and the ability to think analytically • Knowledge of computer programs and applications, which may include Microsoft Office, ESRI GIS programs, graphic design programs, is highly desirable • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve practical problems and address citizen inquiries and concerns • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously. Strong organizational and time management skills in an office setting. Pay Grade 9: $21.78-$22.43 plus benefits and annual step increases.
