We cannot accept cash. VACANCIES: This exam is being held for future vacancies in the City of Dunkirk and the City of Jamestown. DUTIES: A Police Lieutenant has the responsibility for the supervision of a major function or activity in the Police Department. An employee in this class may also serve as a line officer on an assigned shift. Incumbents are responsible for assigning duties to subordinate police sergeants and/or officers, evaluating their performance, and instructing them on new or revised law enforcement procedures, policies and methods. According to the nature of the assignment, the work may be performed under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, or the Assistant Chief of Police with leeway permitted for the use of independent judgment in carrying out assignments. Supervision is exercised over all lower ranking police personnel. Does related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: City of Dunkirk - Two (2) years of permanent competitive class status as a Police Sergeant or five (5) years as a Police Officer with the Dunkirk Police Department. City of Jamestown One (1) year of permanent competitive class status as a Police Sergeant or eight (8) years of permanent competitive class status as a Police Officer in the Jamestown Police Department. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be eligible for a Certificate of Training in Police Supervision issued by the Executive Director of the Municipal Police Training Council and complete same within the time limits contained in Title 9, Part 6021.7 of the New York State Code, Rules, and Regulations.
