Responsibilities

Serves as a key member of the expanded leadership team for specific patient care areas with a primary focus on planning and coordinating the medical equipment/supply chain logistics, physical facility changes, and ancillary hospital support systems and services. Builds the annual budget for expenses (excluding human resource costs) in excess of $20 million, monitors performance of the expense budget, and evaluates, recommends, develops, and implements expense reduction initiatives to meet departmental and institutional strategic objectives. Responsible for all capital and expensed equipment purchases for the patient care areas. Identifies and coordinates product/device value analysis initiatives, with Departmental and institutional impact, including driving standardization, sourcing product, providing guidance in purchasing decisions, resolving service issues along the supply chain, and optimizing reimbursement. The position requires accountability and responsibility for compiling and analyzing data, recommending decisions, and creating graphical presentations for customers, committees, and vendors. Maintains a broad knowledge of hospital support systems with an expert understanding of their interrelationships and dependencies, and exercises initiative to quickly solve problems that range from routine to complex and unusual. The role includes ongoing communication and consultation utilizing shared decision-making and teaching techniques to collaborate with Nurse Managers, patient care unit staff, and other multidisciplinary team members, to support the operational needs of the patient care area. Develops business relationships with outside vendors, and representatives of other healthcare institutions. Applies current healthcare administration and management theories to make decisions which maximize the Department's use of equipment, supplies, facilities and ancillary services.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a health science or business field. Five years experience in hospital operations, patient care support, materials management, and/or facilities operations. Alternatively, candidates with at least 10 years of related Mayo hospital experience in a combination of patient care support, central supply, and materials management, at an equivalent level of accountability and responsibility, may be considered. At least two years successful leadership experience required in a line or staff role. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Knowledge of accounting and cost control principles. Skill in improving operations and procedures. Microcomputer proficiency required. Current notary public or ability to obtain commission required. Extensive working knowledge of medical equipment and supplies, and continuous improvement/quality planning methodologies. Ability to investigate and understand statistical data, think logically, and understand cause-and-effect relationships.
