The Neighborhood Department is actively seeking a Professional Geologist. T his is professional work at the supervisory or advanced level in planning, conducting, coordinating, and monitoring geological investigations and studies. The work requires seasonal understanding and application of the theories, principles, and practices of geological research, analysis, and testing, which is usually gained throughdegree granting schools, or equivalent experience, supplemented by substantial work experience. Plans, organizes, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Contacts require skills in understanding and influencing others which are important in supervising staff; coordinating studies, projects, and programs with outside parties; resolving complaints and enforcing regulationsincluding skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view that are required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around .The work is covered by clearly defined policies and principles underlying the programs area where the incumbent is required to exercise judgment in accomplishing program objectives. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in search for solutions or new applications within ones' known experiences. The work is performed in a controlled environment where risks, hazards and physical demands are minimal. Operates a motor vehicle and standard office equipment such as a personal computer.The work is performed under administrative direction where the work is subject to operating plans, objectives, functional policies and precedents, and the worker is free from any technical control in planning and carrying out their work responsibilities. The work is reviewed in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other work projects, and effectiveness in meeting requirements or expected results.: OPEN REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution with a major in Geology. - Four years of professional geological experience.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION : - FLA Professional Geologist License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. - If registered in another state, must secure Florida registration within one year of appointment. A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. - Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification. - Depending on assignment,OSHA 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification may be required and must be maintained. OTHER REQUIREMENTS : - Theprobationary period for this class is twelve months.
