Hal Jones Contractor Pile Driver Operator in Jacksonville, Florida

Summary: The Bridge Pile Driver works with pile-driving rigs that drive metal, concrete, or wood piling into the earth during the early stages of construction to support bridges. S/he works with a variety of hand and portable power tools and will frequently cut, join, and fasten metal construction materials using welding equipment and oxy-acetylene torches. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work in heavy highway/bridge environment making and measuring pile.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches or building plans in preparation of layout to determine dimensions and type of material(s) required.
  • Build and set forms for pouring concrete per plan specifications.
  • Dig spread and level construction materials; lift, carry and hold materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Ability to align and plumb pile; climb lees to secure pile; smooth and polish all surfaces.
  • Ability to do routine fueling, lubrication and servicing of pile driving equipment; ability to perform basic operation of crane or pile driving in hoisting and moving.
  • Understand the operations and limitations of the equipment; perform daily evaluations to ensure its safe and continual service; report any deficiencies when needed to fix issues.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; properly follow all Company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Perform projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working outdoors is required; previous experience in operating various types of heavy equipment preferred.
  • Sufficient mechanical/equipment knowledge to identify minor problems and fix them and the ability to effectively communicate with supervisor or mechanic about other equipment issues that require repair.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions; function effectively as part of a team; ability to work under pressure; communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Mechanical aptitude is desirable.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel, walk, talk, see, hear, push, pull, climb, bend, and stoop. The employee frequently is required to stand, (for up to 8 eight hours), walk (occasionally on rough terrain/in varying weather conditions), climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for distance sight and to read diagrams, computer screens, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.
