Description
SUMMARY:
The person in this position supervises effective and timely monthly US GAAP primarily for capital expenditures and reporting for the region; supervise and train reporting employee(s); collaborate and communicate effectively with all corporate and regional departments and management team; and independently resolves complex and routine questions and problems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee various aspects of capital expenditure (CapEx) for financial closing and reporting analyses, including monthly and quarterly report, outlooks, and annual budgets for capital projects.
Review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations related to capital, including but not limited to fixed assets addition, transfers, retirements and depreciation/amortization.
Coordinate and effectively communicate with other departments and regional personnel for capital matters, including project statuses and fixed assets characteristics, and provide capital guidance.
Review costs to ensure proper classification of capital versus operating expenses in accordance with capital policy.
Become subject matter expert in new ERP system, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and support process improvement initiatives within capital and fixed asset functional areas and related system modules.
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures and internal controls.
Support other regional and corporate departments as needed.
Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits.
Supervise and train assigned staff.
Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Transportation industry experience, particularly railroad, preferred.
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and develop alternative solutions.
Good interpersonal and communications skills; ability to focus on resolving conflict, speak and write clearly and persuasively, listen to get clarification, and respond well to questions.
Ability to build trust by treating customers, peers, and others with integrity and respect, upholding organizational values, and keeping commitments.
Ability to work as part of a team, balancing team and individual responsibilities and contributing to building a positive team spirit; ability to support everyone’s efforts to succeed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA or MBA preferred
A minimum of five to ten years of related experience
