Welder

Qualifications

  • Ability to read a tape measure

  • Work well in a team environment

  • The employee must frequently lift or move items over 50 pounds with a weight limit of 75 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

  • The employee must be physically able as determined by a physician or other licensed health care professional using OSHA's medical questionnaire or an equivalent method to wear a respirator

  • Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • High school diploma or GED diploma

  • Three to six months' welding experience, or trade schooling

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Welders fabricate and assemble metal parts to produce equipment according to customer and engineering specifications using MIG welding machines with a flux-cored wire electrode

  • Operates fabrication shop machinery and equipment including, but not limited to welding machines, cutting torches, grinders, overhead cranes, and forklifts

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements

  • Removes all welding slag, burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from workpiece

  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as cleaning and changing consumable parts

  • Performs related duties as assigned by supervision

  • Follow all shop safety policies and practices

  • Weld in all positions (flat, vertical, and overhead) with a consistent weld bead size

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to high noise levels in the work environment and does require hearing protection

  • This position is highly safety sensitive as heavy components are being lifted and moved with cranes and forklifts daily

  • The employee will also be asked to occasionally move equipment outside and will therefore be subjected sometimes to poor weather conditions

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear

  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day

  • Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for day-shift, 40 hours per week

  • Overtime hours as needed

  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
