Hanson Professional Services voted one of “Best Companies to Work For” in 2021, by Florida Trend Magazine, is seeking a full time Site Civil Engineer/Project Manager to join our Land Development team in Jacksonville, FL.

Position Profile
The Site Civil Engineer/Project Manager will oversee, guide, and mentor staff and interface with the Florida Infrastructure Group to produce the various deliverables required as part of our infrastructure practice, as well as, in support to other Hanson markets. The qualified candidate will perform site development engineering for municipalities, educational facilities, commercial and industrial developments. An emphasis in municipal engineering is preferred. This role will require a combination of resource and client management, technical production, and staff supervision and development. Design assignments would include site grading, site geometry, ADA pedestrian improvements, pavement design, roadway design, stormwater management, water, and wastewater utilities. Client coordination, project manager assistance with project scope development and visioning prior to the onset of the design phase is also an integral part of the position. Federal market experience would be considered a plus.
A Day in Life of a Site Civil Engineer/Project Manager at Hanson
The ideal candidate will have experience in managing subordinate design staff on multiple project teams, possess practical project accounting knowledge and a verifiable ability to produce high-quality products within budget. This role will function equally effective in both client-facing and internal-facing circumstances.
Here is a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
Day-to-day task oversight and assignment of civil sitework, water and wastewater, stormwater management and municipal street design, perform engineering tasks such as project need assessments and justification, preparation of supporting calculations, oversight, and assistance with regulatory permitting, authoring of engineering reports and technical documentation, and development and review of project bidding documents including technical specifications as needed.
Attend and/or facilitate meetings with current and future clients.
Perform presentations to existing and future clients, councils, boards, commissions, and governing bodies.
Provide leadership to subordinate design staff, including mentoring, training, and production assistance.
Interface with leadership to assess performance.
Assist in recruiting and retention of staff
Prepare responses to requests for proposals, attend project pursuit interviews and other related marketing activities for business development.
Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control Reviews of engineering plans, specifications, and design documentation.
Perform construction administration duties which include submittal review, review of contractor pay applications, and evaluation of construction progress reports for compliance with contract documents. Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with Client, contractor, and design team.
What We are Looking For
We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:
Technical Skills:
Experience working with municipalities, FDOT, water management districts, regulatory agencies, and utility/agencies owners.
Experience interacting with other peer disciplines including but not limited to roadways, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural and structural.
Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D. Similar proficiency with MicroStation/Geopak considered a plus.
Soft Skills:
A history of effective teambuilding and leadership of project teams over a broad project range.
Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
Effective written and oral communication skills, including being able to communicate complex technical concepts both visually and in text, to other engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.
Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
Experience and interest mentoring and training team members.
Possesses strong organizational skills with a sense of self-initiative and urgency to meet project deadlines.
Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
Work assignment flexibility including being available to travel for out-of-town assignments, primarily daytrips or evening attendance of local client meetings.
Hours worked will vary based on project demands, including occasional, periodic overtime.

Education/Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Advanced degree considered a plus.
Minimum of 15 years of site design experience including project management activities.
At minimum, possess an active Professional Engineers license in Florida.
