Job Title: Advanced Shipfitter (Multi-Pass Tack and Burn)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Shipfitter with a strong experience in multi-pass tack and burn welding. This role requires a minimum of four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class shipfitter. The ideal candidate will have the ability to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, and will be familiar with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform single pass tack welding using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process.

  • Operate burning-oxygen/propane burning torches and heating-oxygen/propane heating torches.

  • Interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and datum and reference lines.

  • Comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler.

  • Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.

  • Assemble structural piece parts in accordance with specifications in a quality manner.

  • Work in a physically demanding environment, such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication.

  • Follow OSHA regulations related to the shipbuilding industry.

  • Use vibratory tools such as grinders and needle guns.

Essential Skills

  • Experience using vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns)

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment

Work will be performed in a shipyard, either on a Navy vessel or in a shop environment. The shipyard is located in Southeast Virginia and spans over five miles. The climate is hot and muggy during the summer and cool during the winter. Candidates must be able to work any shift, including 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am).

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
