Consumers Energy Sr Engineering Technician in JACKSON, Michigan

Location:

This position’s preferred assigned location is Parnall in Jackson, MI but other locations may be considered in the electric service territory.

We are looking for: Sr Engineering Technician

The Senior Engineering Technician responsibilities include product/process research; Field technical support; and support for the utility system. They will gather and track standards and manual feedback and have ownership of process change management. The Senior Engineering Technician will frequently coordinate with other internal departments and leadership to ensure compliance and assist with project task management. They will develop and deliver training material to lower grade level technicians.

  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her field and related sciences and disciplines

  • Individual possesses the skills to lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment

  • Knowledge and/or experience in utility operations

  • Provide engineering services with accuracy, integrating all applicable laws and company policies, standards, and procedures

  • Knowledge and application of utility trends and business model

  • Ability to solve complex problems; taking new perspectives using existing computer based solutions

  • Communication skills

  • Technical Writing

  • Knowledge of project management principles

  • Associates’ degree in a STEM or related field with four (4) or more years of applicable experience in engineering technical support and/or design

In this role, you will:

  • Read and interpret utility industry standards, drawings and device specification/data sheets and apply them to a working environment. Provide feedback and recommendation as applicable.

  • Meets with 3rd party supporting firms and general contractor representatives to provide standards and collect feedback on a recurring basis to ensure up to date understanding and compliance.

  • Develop and configure supported infrastructure based on current utility needs. This includes implementing levels, specialized components, creation of fabrication drawings, custom reports.

  • Assist leadership in creating new department standards and procedures as they relate to plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately.

  • Provide cross-functional engineering guidance and consultation on design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation.

  • Perform field visits and work with field operations teams for project life cycle.

  • On the job learning & development via learning modules, standard review, and mentorship via senior engineer.

  • Support special assignments that may not be directly related to project work. Examples might include odorize engineer, field support engineer, specifications and process development, etc.

  • Support Storm Restoration activities when called upon.

  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.

This role will serve as the Cascade Asset Management Database owner with the following responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for users in multiple departments

  • Collaborate with company stakeholders and IT to test and deploy software updates and modules

  • Collaborate with users and departments to develop, document, and improve the company maintenance program and manage asset health

  • Continuously improve data quality

  • Provide training to Cascade users

  • Write and maintain standard work documentation

  • Automate tasks and create technical reports using SQL, Python, PowerBI
