This vacancy is located inJACKSON, LOUISIANA atVILLA FELICIANA MEDICAL COMPLEX in theNURSING SERVICE DEPARTMENT. This vacancy is a12 hourNIGHT SHIFT position.

This position is a sub-professional Nursing Work involving more specialized and advanced non-professional nursing procedures to provide the personal care to assist in recuperation or rehabilitation of residents/patients. This position supervises and manages a resident/patient care service consisting of a number of wards during an assigned shift. This involves specific nursing assignments and will be responsible for total resident/patient care. Will provide comfort, maintain cleanliness and safety for the residents/patients.

THIS POSITION MAY BE FILLED AS A NEW PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT, PROMOTION OR DETAIL OF A PERMANENT STATE EMPLOYEE.

Applicants who are certified with the Louisiana Nurse Aide Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant may be given preference for this position.

This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $16.45/hour.

This position offers additional pay: Longevity Pay and Shift Differential Pay

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of experience in psychiatric patient care or in providing care, guidance or training to the developmentally disabled, physically disabled, or chemically dependent.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

College training with at least six semester hours per year in one or a combination of education, psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, child guidance, or nursing will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

A Mental Health Aide Diploma from a vocational technical college with an approved curriculum from the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will substitute for six months of the required general experience.

NOTE:

Most vacancies will be filled by promotion. Completion of an in-service training program administered by the department may be required.

To provide supervision to subordinate paraprofessional healthcare staff on a service consisting of a number of wards.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Psychiatric Aide Supervisor 1 by the presence of supervisory responsibilities over several wards. Psychiatric Aide Supervisor 2 positions serve as second-line supervisors.

Differs from the Psychiatric Aide Training Instructor by the lack of responsibility for assisting the professional staff with the instruction of formalized comprehensive training programs for psychiatric aides and by the presence of direct-line supervisory responsibilities over psychiatric aides.

Examples of Work

Supervises and manages a patient care service consisting of a number of wards during an assigned shift; prepares work schedules and follows-up on assignments as designated.

Participates in formalized training programs for lower-level psychiatric aides and provides guidance in clinical work.

Instructs and supervises subordinate personnel in the proper care and supervision of patients and therapeutic intervention.

Makes rounds of inspection, reviews records, and monitors the environment to ensure ward safety and sanitary conditions.

Prepares reports as required by policies of the facility.

Assists professional personnel in developing programs on therapeutic techniques with patients, such as re-motivation, rehabilitation, and re-socialization.

Works with groups of patients in therapeutic activities.

Performs duties of any lower level psychiatric aide as necessary.
