The Southeast Asia Program (SEAP) sits within the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies and is a global leader in Southeast Asian studies.


Since its founding in 1951, SEAP has contributed to understanding Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei, East Timor, and Singapore in a comparative regional and global context, with a distinctive interdisciplinary program that spans the humanities, social sciences, and applied sciences.


What you will do:

The Program Manager oversees SEAP's administrative operations and is responsible for the overall implementation and coordination of the program's financial, administrative, academic, and human resource activities. The administrator will serve as a liaison with the Einaudi Center and represent the program in collaborations and activities with numerous units both on and off campus.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Financial management of accounts and budgets including grants, gift, and contracts
  • Supervise two full-time SEAP staff members: Program Assistant and Outreach and Communications Coordinator
  • Administrative operation of academic programs (e.g. weekly lectures, student committee activities, faculty symposia or conferences)
  • Oversight of SEAP's communications strategy and management of website, listservs and SEAP's extensive alumni and student database.
  • Serve as the human resources liaison for SEAP, including staff and student hires, as well as visiting fellow appointments and any related immigration and visa processes.
  • Responsible for data collection for reports, grants or opportunities to ensure that strategic goals of the Program are met including but not limited to the USDE Title VI NRC and FLAS grants.
  • Anticipate and facilitate faculty, student, colleague, visitor, or public requests.
  • Organize fellowship and internal grant competitions and administer related awards and reporting.
  • Coordinate with faculty and assist Einaudi and SEAP outreach staff in administrative aspects of educational and community outreach at the regional and national level.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York with the job being performed on campus.


What we need:

An organized team-player who is enthusiastic about managing a diverse and demanding portfolio of activities in support of Southeast Asian studies. You must have a proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple areas, events and deadlines, while working with faculty, students, and staff in an intercultural academic setting.

Additionally, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with at least 3 years related managerial, supervisory and/or administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skillscultivate and maintain an effective work environment
  • Experience with grant and contract management and/or financial accounts management
  • Working knowledge of database management and office technology, including word processing, ability to adapt to new technologies and platforms

In addition to the above, we would prefer you to have:

  • Master's and experience with international studies and/or intercultural communication. Experience in Higher Education.
  • Graduate-level training in Southeast Asian studies or other in-depth experience in higher education with international studies
  • Familiarity with Southeast Asia and facility with a Southeast Asian language
