Cornell University, a nationally ranked Ivy League institution, is looking for an IT Business & Quality Assurance Analyst to join the Alumni Affairs & Development division in Ithaca, NY.


Alumni Affairs & Development (AAD) supports the engagement of alumni, parents and friends through University-sponsored programs, activities and philanthropy. Within AAD, the Advancement Information Systems (AIS) team supports the broad technology and analytic needs of the division, including project management; business application development; desktop, network, server security; maintenance and support; and data architecture and delivery.


The IT Business & Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for performing business analysis and quality assurance activities, supporting projects that vary in size and complexity including small to enterprise-wide initiatives that reflect the diversity of activities within AAD and the organization at large. They will seek to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and generally be focused on supporting discovery projects, technology implementations, as well as, ensuring successful completion of assigned projects managed with the Advancement Information Systems (AIS) Team Project Management Team. The IT Business & Quality Assurance Analyst will often support multiple projects simultaneously.


The IT Business & Quality Assurance Analyst will specifically be responsible for:

  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and document business requirements, and translate these into functional specifications, where necessary.
  • Communication: Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, as well as, present findings, and recommendations, and provide project updates to various audiences, where necessary.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop and execute test plans, test scripts or test cases, as well as conduct QA and post-production validation testing, working closely with cross-functional teams. In addition, provide UAT training and support to end users, where necessary.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Employ critical thinking to understand and identify opportunities for process improvement, conducting root cause analysis and recommending solutions that will streamline operations that align with the organization's strategic goals and technological capabilities.
  • Organizational Skills: Lead and schedule business analysis sessions, document meeting minutes/notes, track project activities, and ensure that risks, action items, issues, and decisions are kept up to date. In addition, ensure that all related project documentation is updated and organized in the repository.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest business analysis trends and best practices, incorporating them into the AAD Project Development Lifecycle Framework (PDLC).

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.
  • Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years of experience in an IT Business Analyst/QA Analyst role or equivalent combination
  • Minimum 1-3 years of supporting projects and/or project managers.
  • Proficiency in requirements gathering techniques with strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with using computer productivity and business analysis tools, such as Teams, JIRA, Confluence, TDX, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Qualtrics, or similar tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to translate between customers and technical resources is key.
  • Ability to consider and analyze situations at both an individual system level and as part of a broader architectural ecosystem.
  • Proven experience in working within a team environment and establishing collaborative customer relationships.
  • Proven experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, complex, and rapidly changing environment.
  • Must be able to prioritize across multiple and simultaneous activities.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and software development lifecycle.
