Taking a One Health approach, we recognize that our own health is intimately tied to how we treat the natural world. The CYCWH works with our partners around the world to develop science-based solutions, and to leverage our multidisciplinary approach into policy and action. We deliver real, on-the-ground results coupled with an emphasis on training the next generation of conservation leaders.

The Grants and Communications Manager will play a critical role in advancing the mission of CYCWH by developing and implementing integrated development and marketing strategies to highlight the center's programs and impact, and to increase the center's visibility, engagement, and growth. This position reports to the Associate Director of CYCWH and is a key member of the Wildlife Health & Health Policy Team within the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). The role involves close collaboration with CYCWH directors, program staff, and various Cornell departments, including the Office of Alumni Affairs & Development (AAD) and the Office of Marketing & Communications (MarCom).

Key Responsibilities:

    • Plan and execute communication efforts aimed at engaging internal and external audiences, cultivating current and potential new constituents, and reinforcing brand awareness.
    • Develop and utilize metrics and tools to measure the success of CYCWH's development and marketing initiatives.
  • Grants and Constituent Relations:
    • Research, identify, and prioritize potential funding opportunities for review by CYCWH directors, CVM AAD, and/or the College Research Office.
    • Draft compelling grant proposals and reports for various funders.
    • Manage a database of funding sources and track proposal/report deadlines.
    • Work with CYCWH directors and CVM AAD to plan and organize engagement and outreach activities for current and potential constituents, and to help manage online fundraising campaigns.
  • Marketing and Communications:
    • Manage and update the CYCWH website, develop content, and monitor analytics to improve engagement.
    • Manage social media accounts, including content creation, audience engagement, and campaign strategies.
    • Develop, design, and manage marketing and communication materials, including newsletters and other email content, brochures, reports, and other visuals/media.
    • Manage the creation of new content, including coordinating, writing, and editing news stories, blog posts, and profiles that engage diverse audiences.
    • Represent the center at events and collaborate with internal and external partners for cross-promotion.
  • Program Administration:
    • Serve as a resource and liaison to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Participate in strategic and operational planning for CYCWH programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, a science discipline, or a related field with 3- 5 years of experience in communications, marketing, grant writing, fundraising/development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Highly collaborative and excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across different groups.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to translate complex scientific information into compelling content for different audiences.

    • Creative design abilities and familiarity with graphic design programs like Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Experience with or familiarity with fundraising and/or proposal development.
    • A commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing in all aspects of work.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic development, marketing, and/or communication strategies in a non-profit or higher education setting.
