Dairy processing manufacturers are critical to the vitality of New York State's agricultural industry. As New York State's land grant institution, Cornell University is committed to research and extension efforts that support the dairy industry. Over the past several years, dairy manufacturers have experienced stark workforce shortages that limit their ability to function at capacity, thereby limiting New York State's ability to consistently and competitively produce dairy products. Workforce shortages have become the major concern of dairy product manufacturers, and Cornell has become increasingly engaged in this issue from a research and extension standpoint. This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of extension dependent on successful performance, available work and continued funding. What you will do: We are seeking a Workforce Support Specialist to join the established Dairy Foods Extension (DFE) Program at Cornell University. The DFE team has fostered tight connections with New York State dairy processors, and has developed extensive resources in dairy foods processing including a dairy foods processing certificate program, a world-class food safety and quality research program, facility consultation and troubleshooting services. Key Responsibilities The DFE Workforce Support Specialist will work directly with the DFE team to assist job seekers with direct job placement in open positions in dairy processing facilities across NY. This work will further enhance our extension team's ability to fulfill our College of Agriculture and Life Sciences land-grant mission to build community capacity, improve lives, and enhance the economic well-being of people and communities. What We Need: Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years of work experience in education, workforce counseling, human resources, or related fields Excellent interpersonal skills. Oral and written communication and organizational skills are required. Ability and willingness to make public presentations to a variety of audiences Strong interest or passion for workforce development Excellent initiative Strong organizational skills Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of diverse audiences Experience that demonstrates sound judgment, creativity, management and problem-solving skills, and ability to work well within a team of professionals, Ability to plan ahead and anticipate potential issues; strong ability for multi-tasking Strong computer skills including Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail. Effective problem-solving skills and ability to change program objectives as needed. Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position including site visits, and off-site program coordination. Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS driver's license.
