The Bioinformatics Senior Research Associate will collaborate with and provide advanced complex bioinformatics research services for Cornell biology groups as part of the Biotechnology Resource Center (BRC) Bioinformatics Facility. Research areas include but are not limited to a) high throughput sequencing, single cell genomics, genotyping, b) genomic scale data integration. The incumbent must have a sophisticated understanding of biological problems and be capable of expressing them in computational terms. Implementing appropriate algorithms and software tools to solve computational biology problems are integral to this position. The incumbent will provide bioinformatics consulting for biologists, including recommending methods, hardware and software solutions associated with the research. The incumbent will manage or provide guidance on research design and development, as well as contribute to the coding, deployment and maintenance of Bioinformatics Facility computational infrastructure. Attending and participating in seminars, scientific and industry meetings, and workshops will be standard.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Managing BRC Bioinformatics Facility research collaborations and services with BRC user labs, particularly Ashley Laughney Lab, including developing new methods for genomics data analysis and carrying out data analysis.

Design and develop new HPC services and platforms for BioHPC Cloud.

Develop and organize Facility workshops on BioHPC Cloud, Linux environment and bioinformatics.

Adapting, installing and deploying software for BioHPC Cloud.

Designing, developing and coding new BioHPC Cloud interface and management features.

Managing and troubleshooting BioHPC Cloud computing resources, including communication, authentication, storage and HPC services.

Providing customer support service for BioHPC Cloud users as needed.


Required Qualifications:


Ph.D. in bioinformatics or a related field and at least 5 years of post-graduate relevant experience.

Proficient in concepts and terminology in molecular biology, genomics, and related sciences.

Excellent programming skills with extensive programming experience, C# and Python preferred.

Working knowledge of popular integrated development and computing platforms like R, R-studio, Jupyter Lab.

Excellent knowledge of Linux system administration including deployment and troubleshooting of bioinformatics software.

Enthusiasm for working on multiple interdisciplinary research projects is important.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.


This is a three-year term appointment with the possibility of extension contingent upon continued funding and available work.

Pay Range:

$51,200.00 - $142,400.00

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
