The Opportunity

Cornell Law School is seeking a highly organized and proactive Administrative Assistant to provide high-level, complex, and confidential administrative support to the Dean. Reporting to the Executive Staff Assistant to the Dean, the successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Dean's office and will be responsible for coordinating and performing a wide variety of administrative activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calendar Management: Schedule meetings and manage the Dean's calendar to ensure efficient time management and prioritization of tasks.
  • Travel Coordination: Arrange travel plans for the Dean, including booking accommodations and processing associated reimbursements.
  • Faculty Candidate Support: Assist with the logistics of faculty candidate and recruitment visits, ensuring a seamless experience for all involved.
  • Event Coordination: Plan and organize events and special functions for the Dean, including coordination of logistics and communication with attendees.
  • Faculty Support: Provide administrative support for faculty meetings and other faculty activities as directed by the Dean.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and is fully on-site. When the Dean travels, there may be opportunities for some remote work periodically. This remote work arrangement is subject to change at any time. Typical work hours are 8:30am-5pm Monday through Friday.


What You Need

We are looking for a team member who is welcoming, organized, experienced at working independently, and adept at time management. Additionally, you will:

  • Hold an Associate's degree and 2-4 years of experience or equivalent.
  • Work successfully under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting, handle multiple tasks with differing deadlines, and to prioritize work on projects happening simultaneously.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills, along with organizational, planning, time management, interpersonal skills.
  • Have a strong service orientation and attention to detail.
  • Interact well with diverse populations.
  • Be able to handle high-volumes of work during peak periods.
  • Resolve problems using sound judgment.
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Have experience in and/or demonstrated commitment supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with event coordination and Cornell procurement and accounting systems.
