Kelly Services Mechanical Application Engineer in Itasca, Illinois

Full time direct hire opportunity in Itasca, IL for a Mechanical Application Engineer.

Mechanical Engineering degree required.

Experience with Solidworks - 3D Modeling

Knowledge of BOM related to Steel and/or Plastics

3-5 years of experience required

Good communication as there will be Client Interface

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The Application Engineer works with our customers to assess functional needs, design mechanical products and systems, develop testing specifications and methods, and leverage existing solutions where possible.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Engineering Manager

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work directly with customers, sales personnel, suppliers, and internal teams to identify customer needs, establish clear functional expectations, and ultimately deliver products that meet those requirements

  • Develop technical knowledge of core products to assist with addressing customer concerns, supporting VA/VE efforts, and driving overall cost reduction

  • Establish and maintain project timelines to ensure key deliverables are met (prototypes, pilot runs, etc.)

  • Generate comprehensive technical 3D models and drawings for a wide variety of components

  • Evaluate customer products via teardowns to uncover value engineering opportunities

  • Coordinate launch of new programs with global manufacturing partners

  • Assist Quality department in evaluating suppliers and ensuring high quality in products

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE, CAPABILITIES AND SUCCESS FACTORS

  • BS – Mechanical Engineering

  • CAD proficiency – preferably with SolidWorks

  • Knowledge of materials/manufacturing methods used in the manufacture of metal and plastic products

  • Standard business computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Office programs

  • Good communication skills and cross-functionality with internal stakeholders

  • The ability to carry on meaningful and effective discussion with counterparts at customers

  • Ability to travel to customer and supplier facilities and including some international travel

  • Excellent time management abilities

  • Self-starter and someone that works well independently and creatively

  • Exudes professionalism in conduct and appearance

  • Conducts business and acts on behalf of company in an ethical manner

  • Problem-solving, service-oriented, resolution-based attitude

  • 3D printer experience a plus
