POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Irving TX based Product Safety and Reliability Engineer is responsible for ensuring safety and reliability of Flow Control Division products, in particular valves, actuators, instrumentation. This individual contributor reports to the Director, Quality based in Italy. The ideal candidate has knowledge of the valve and instrumentation industries, either at a valve or instrumentation manufacturing company (designing such products), or as a technical user of such products (= process engineer, in a process industry: oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, power, pulp & paper, etc. This role will work closely with design, R&D, product engineering, legal and operation to establish product safety and reliability processes and provide mentoring to ensure the established processes are followed.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Lead product development, industrialization and localization on a safety and reliability perspective to ensure a process-based development and deployment approach, with specific focus on product risk management

  • Own and lead the DFMEA/PFMEA process across function for new products development, critical design/manufacturing changes (including modifications/changes done by external suppliers or new suppliers introduction), identified systemic and/or critical Product Complaints

  • Provide guidance on matters related to systematic safety and reliability events. Define actions required, lead the type of communication to customers (notification, recall…) as needed.

  • Participate in the NPD gate reviews and ensure safety and reliability considerations have been taken into account.

  • Review the technical literature and ensure it depicts accurately reliability and safety performance.

  • Coordinate recall actions across the organization to ensure completeness and compliance, when such a recall / notification occurs.

  • Has the authority to halt production of a product, if reliability or safety of the product are deemed below the standards of Flowserve

  • Could potentially serve as a witness (technical) expert in case of litigation.

  • Assess the performance of Product Safety and Reliability processes and maintain a reporting system.

  • Establish the right processes for standardization and sharing best practices across the Division products portfolio.

  • 30% Travel to manufacturing sites, US based and abroad.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

  • Ensure Product Safety and Reliability is embedded in all processes for new products development, critical design/manufacturing changes, identified systemic and/or critical Product Complaints

  • Achieve high standards, above industry, of product safety and reliability.

  • Optimize the critical events response for the Customer and for the Business

  • Ensure proper field performances analytics are in place and reviews are taken by the relevant functions to take proper improvement actions across the Division.

  • Become the recognize Division Subject Matter Expert in Product Reliability & Safety

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Engineering degree. PE License preferred.

  • 5 years engineering experience (preferred) or Product Quality & Safety

  • Solid product engineering, quality and safety background

  • Knowledge of the valve and instrumentation industries, either at a valve or instrumentation manufacturing company (designing such products), or as a technical user of such products (= process engineer, in a process industry: oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, power, pulp & paper, …)

  • Understanding and mastery of safety design standards and reliability concepts

  • Expert in Product and Process risk assessment and mitigation (DFMEA, PFMEA)

  • Familiar to general industry standards (API, PED, Nuclear, IECEx, ATEX, RED…)

  • Ability to influence, communicate, and collaborate at all organizational levels.

  • Ability to connect with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, ComOps, Sales, Legal… and Executive Management

  • Solid leadership skills in communicating, leading and mentoring cross-functional teams.
