JOB SUMMARY

Location BSWH Medical Center Irving TX

Shift Day 8:00am - 5:00pm Must have flexibility based on operational needs

Preferred Experience Must have at least 2 years of knowledge and leadership experience working in a histology lab

The Manager of Anatomic Pathology manages the daily the operations of the Histopathology Laboratory. This includes ensuring that regulatory and safety requirements are met. Supervises staff, including all activities relative to work assignments, hiring/termination, performance reviews, orientation, and professional development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Manages the daily functions of the histopathology laboratory to ensure it runs efficiently. Performs all delegated functions as defined by facility CLIA Director.

  • Prepares schedules, coordinates job assignments, and monitors personnel including the selection, orientation, training, assignments, evaluations, discipline, and discharge of employees.

  • Serves as a liaison between residents, pathologists, and histopathology laboratory staff. Works with physicians for special staining and cutting request in gross and routine areas.

  • Oversees equipment maintenance records and schedules preventative maintenance for equipment including microscopes, microtones, strainers, ovens, and cryostats.

  • Budgets, provides information about supplies, personnel, and equipment, seeks avenues of cost containment, and plans long-term purchases or capital equipment.

  • Develops, recommends, implements, and maintains policies and procedures related to the histopathology laboratory.

  • Ensures compliance with all safety standards established by OSHA and CAP.

  • Remains knowledgeable of trends in Histopathology through review of current literature and continuing education.

  • Basic business knowledge, including but not limited to: annual planning and goal setting, adherence to budgets, employee compensation, compliance and risk management.

  • General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification

  • EXPERIENCE - 4 Years of Experience

  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - ASCP-Histotechnician (ASCP-HT), ASCP-Histotechnologist (ASCP-HTL), ASCP-Pathologist Asst (ASCP-PA): "Must have one of the following:

  • ASCP-Histotechnician ASCP-HT, or

  • ASCP-Histotechnologist ASCP-HTL, or

  • ASCP-Pathologist Asst ASCP-PA".
