At Jacobs, we are challenging today and reinventing tomorrow. As a Transportation Structural Engineer in Irvine, CA you will be a part of a global team that supports both Ports and Maritime projects and Bridge/Highway projects.

You’ll be involved with design, analysis, and delivery of projects ranging from local waterfront projects or large-scale port developments to civil transportation structures, primarily bridges. We’ll rely on you to provide support to our teams on critical projects while fostering a culture of continuous learning and inclusion as you bring fresh ideas to the table.

We’ll provide you the challenge of working on the design of new and rehabilitation of existing marine facilities or transportation infrastructure projects. You will be given the opportunity to work with clients and subconsultants and give technical presentations as necessary.

You should be a self-motivated professional, ideally with a Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, a minimum of 6-10 years of transportation structures design experience, familiarity with local design codes and common design software, and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each project. You’ll use your experience to provide technical expertise and lead a team in completing port and transportation structure design and construction projects from conceptual and preliminary design to final design and construction. You’ll works as a competent engineer in all aspects of structural design includes development of structural calculations/designs, drawings, specifications, field inspections, cost estimates and reports. Your experience will also lend well to training, directing and mentoring junior less-experienced engineers and CAD staff. You’ll also coordinate design activities and meetings between Jacobs staff and subcontractors and assist in business development activities and proposal efforts.

This position will be based out of our Irvine, CA office and may include travel to other local offices.

The base salary range for this position is $92,000 to $143,750. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • A minimum of 6 – 10 years of progressive experience as a Structural Engineer in the design of marine structures and/or bridges.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited university or college.

  • CA Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain one within one year) is required. If close to obtaining a license or scheduled for the exam, the candidate will be considered.

  • Working knowledge of building codes and standards (ASCE 7, ACI, AISC and AASHTO) as it relates to the design of marine structures and bridges.

  • Experience in preparation of construction drawings and specifications.

  • Proficiency with structural analysis programs (i.e. SAP2000, MIDAS, STAAD Pro, etc.) and familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.

  • Ability to produce technical memorandums and reports.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and small projects independently.

  • Ability to travel occasionally for site visits and inspections.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.

  • Experience with project quantities and cost estimation.

  • Experience in working with port authorities, private terminal companies and Caltrans.

  • Ability to produce structure details in AutoCAD / MicroStation and coordinate with senior CAD operators to prepare construction drawings.

  • Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM)

  • Experience with computational design and design automation

  • Structural field inspection experience.
