Position Summary:

Responsible for the development and support project teams in the development of new and legacy PCB’s in the electrophysiology field and ultrasound products at Biosense Webster. Project support includes electric design, design for manufacturing, test method development and product verification and validation testing. We are seeking for an experienced, talented, and dedicated Staff Board Designer to join our R&D team in a key role.

The Staff R&D Engineer will provide Hardware design technical leadership for research projects, as well as product development projects. The Engineer will lead both internal engineering teams and external contract engineering teams, as applicable.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Define Hardware architecture and provide solutions for the development of analog and digital hardware.

  • Lead the design of new or existing components and/or devices while ensuring that all design requirements are met under limited guidance and oversight.

  • Design and implement key sub-system components for the company's challenging next generation of multidisciplinary products.

  • Develop customer requirements and product specifications with validated test methods.

  • Support or lead quality improvement initiatives such as process and product characterizations that lead to continuous / cost improvements.

  • Study specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confer with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.

  • Interface between external vendors and core team.

  • Solve system complex problems with deep hardware issues understanding.

  • Promote innovation and new technology in Hardware design.

  • Expected to present project work across management levels and to customers and author scientific publications and patents in support of key technologies.

  • Expected to write reports, work instructions, test methods and procedures.

  • Travel to customer sites, domestic and international, to gather VOC, perform testing and/or perform troubleshooting activities.

  • Responsible for performing design reviews and pre-validation assessments to ensure the safe and environmentally sound processes and designs.

  • Provide technical mentoring to less experienced engineers and technicians.

  • Responsible for the purchase or design of equipment that meets health, safety and environmental standards set by the company.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field

  • A minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience in designing and implementing analog & digital PCBs.

  • Competent using a drafting and design software such as OrCAD, Altium, Cadence, or equivalent to review, design, and analyze circuits.

  • Proficiency in the full design cycle, from simulations, through board design and implementation, testing, to manufacturing and reliability.

  • Experience with multidisciplinary devices and interfacing with all other technical fields as part of the R&D process, including regulatory considerations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred :

  • Graduate degree preferred.

  • Experience leading projects.

  • Experience with microcontrollers (embedded systems) and High-Speed hardware design.

  • Experience in the field of medical devices.

  • Familiarity with quality and regulatory systems including FDA’s Quality System Regulation, ISO13485, etc.

  • Familiarity with design control, engineering change orders (ECO), Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions (CAPA), Risk Management, and software version control.

  • Familiarity with IEC 60601 requirements and testing.

  • Experience designing electromechanical assemblies.

  • Working knowledge of ultrasound principles.

  • Working experience developing scripts for automation or testing using various programming languages and tools.

  • Competent using mathematical methods to solve engineering problems.

  • This role will require up to 25% travel

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $90,000- 144,900.
