MKS Instruments Inc Senior Product Specialist, Hybrid in Irvine, California

Spectra-Physics, Ophir, Newport and ESI are brands within the MKS Instruments Photonics Solutions division. We provide a full range of solutions including lasers for precision industrial and scientific research applications, laser and LED measurement, beam profiling, precision motion control, optical tables and vibration isolation systems, photonics instruments, temperature sensing, opto-mechanical components, optical elements, and systems for flexible PCB laser processing, high-speed MLCC testing, and CO2-laser-based systems HDI PCB and IC substrate manufacturing. MKS Photonics Solutions enhance our customers’ capabilities and productivity in the semiconductor, advanced electronics and specialty industrial markets.

MKS Newport is a leader in photonics and is growing with the development and fabrication of high precision optics and opto-mechanical components. We provide solutions including precision motion control, optical tables and vibration isolation systems, photonic instruments, optical and opto-mechanical components.

We are looking for a motivated Senior Product Specialist who can help drive growth in our product lines.

This highly technical role requiring an engineering, or physics (photonics) background involves the development of company market requirements for specific products and product lines including product strategy definition, requirements analysis and pricing. You will define and communicate the product line strategy by positioning us for growth in the industrial laser market, flow cytometry, and many other markets.

You Will:

  • Develop our product and technology roadmap by defining the requirements and business cases for new products.

  • Build an understanding of market segmentation, application and customer needs, competition, market trends and dynamics to support strategies to target new opportunities and threats.

  • Perform market research, monitor competitive activity and identify customer needs

  • Analyze competitive products, applications and markets

  • Monitor the development of business plans, managing lifecycles, and product positioning in the marketplace

  • Lead new product definition and business plans with joint departments and Product Line Manager

  • Create messaging and content for marketing materials including advertisements, data sheets, tradeshows, website, public relations, product memos, newsletters and collateral.

  • Develop marketing collateral for the company website including new product release and existing product enhancements

  • Champion the product line through attending tradeshows and refining tradeshow displays

  • Test and evaluate prototypes, first articles for new products, product capabilities and requirements.

  • Answer customer inquiries and act as technical advisor for specific products.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales to enhance existing products and product lines.

What You Bring to the Team, along with your curiosity is:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Engineering, Optics, Mechanical or other Engineering degree

  • 5+ years Optical or Mechanical or Opto-Mechanical design or testing experience

It's Also Nice If You Have:

  • Microsoft Office expertise

  • Track record of working across organizations to help meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems

  • Experience with Solidworks

  • SAP experience

  • Motivated and flexible with the ability to work without supervision

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Pay Range: $74,900 to $139,100. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law.  At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Bonus: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS [or as applicable].
