About the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC):
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is an administrative agency that hears evidence in cases filed before it and makes decisions based on the evidence presented in those cases. An advocate of neither the public nor the utilities, the Commission is required by state statute to make decisions in the public interest to ensure the utilities provide safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates. Role Overview:
This position performs comprehensive analyses of technical evidence filed in cases litigated before the Commission and may serve as case team leader. Results from these analyses are summarized and reported to the Commissioners to help them make balanced and well-supported decisions based on the evidence of record. This position may also assist with other non-case work and may take a lead role in other Division projects. As an experienced professional analyst, duties for this position are performed under limited supervision and require self-motivation, organization, and initiative. This position must be able to develop robust technical analyses, summarize large amounts of data/testimony, and be able to draw conclusions from research to build case foundations. This position reports directly to the Division Director
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $79,736.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
Developing robust technical summaries through analysis of all relevant utility applications, petitions, testimony, schedules and exhibits
Gathering information by attending relevant case hearings and staff meetings and by developing technical questions as part of analysis contained in staff reports
Summarizing and synthesizing large amounts of data/testimony
Drawing conclusions and preparing large portions of, or entire, staff reports;
Position may also become involved with non-case work such as rulemakings, consumer disputes, 30- day filings and federal regulatory issue research
Acting as a Case Team Leader and providing leadership on multiple complex cases
Other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need for Success:
Must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. accounting, engineering, economics, finance, or public policy analysis/public administration)
This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years regulatory and/or utility industry experience which would enable the incumbent to perform at an advanced level with minimal direction and supervision
Other skill requirements build upon those of the Utility Analyst and would include:
Ability to manage large amounts of detail
Ability to understand and interpret the long-term effects of various regulatory scenarios/solutions and be able to adapt to changing perspectives
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to manage projects/discharge responsibilities in accordance with Commission policies and procedures
Ability to manage toward and meet deadlines; o Ability to effectively keep up with large amounts of required reading.
