V2X is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Analyst to join our Hardware Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting the development of advanced airborne systems including podded communication link and sensor systems, airborne armament equipment, alternate mission equipment, cockpit displays, avionics, and radar systems. Our Indianapolis facility also supports a variety of other product lines serving multiple Department of Defense (DoD) customers providing the opportunity to work on a diverse set of programs and roles supporting the continued advancement of your career. The candidate will be responsible for leading analysis execution, managing integrated product teams, and oversight and continuous improvement for the mechanical analysis team.
The Mechanical Analyst is responsible for detailed Structural Analysis to support all phases of programs including development and production of mechanical systems for military environments, with a focus on avionics and armament products. The Mechanical Analyses will cover a wide range of difficult problems, requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives. The analysis tasks will span the spectrum from classical hand analyses to detailed analyses requiring the use of finite element analysis software. As a Mechanical Analyst, you will work under general program direction and will be expected to define the scope and level of analysis required to meet required objectives and will be held accountable for completing the work within the agreed upon cost and schedule. Additionally, you will be expected to present your work for peer reviews and to be a peer reviewer for other engineers’ work. The customers of this position will include internal V2X personnel and programs as well as external customer personnel and programs. You will work with the customer and engineering leadership to define testing required to validate analyses and to verify that hardware is compliant with requirements. In addition, you are expected to plan and support tests, perform data reduction and engage in model correlation. The Senior Principal Mechanical Analyst position should be viewed as an expert in their domain and will require deep subject matter expertise in structural design, analysis, integration, and verification of avionics and armament systems. This must include leading programs through a design phase and into hardware verification. It is expected that this position excels at both executive and technical written and verbal communication. This position will be asked to support or lead failure investigations and root cause corrective action activities across active programs. Additionally, the position should have multi-discipline knowledge and proficiency, enabling superior executing in a future role leading a multidisciplined engineering team as an Integrated Product Team Lead, or as a Responsible Engineering Authority. The Senior Principal Mechanical Analyst will help grow both the analysis team and the business. First, this position will be expected to design, research, and develop advanced new solutions resulting in product or business opportunities, including leading front end of the business activities such as proposals, white papers, and R&D activities. Second, this position will adjust and define existing and new processes utilizing their subject matter expertise. This includes championing, mentoring, and guiding other engineers in following, understanding, challenging, and developing processes and best practices.
Required Skills:
Deep understanding of structural analysis concepts: Stress/strain, linear/non-linear, static and dynamic analysis, structural fatigue, fracture and damage tolerance, bolted joints, etc.
Mechanical analysis experience in military, aerospace, or space environments.
Experience with mechanical testing: planning, organization, instrumentation, execution, data reduction and correlation.
Experience performing Finite Element Modeling using ANSYS or equivalent software.
Expertise performing hand calculations based on fundamental equations.
Applied work experience managing part of a development project.
Failure Investigation and/or Root Cause Corrective Action experience.
Experience with military or aerospace environments (i.e. Mil-Std-810 or DO-160).
Multi-discipline knowledge and proficiency in engineering.
Strong interpersonal skills working in a team environment and leading a technical team with positive interaction.
Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
Experience providing technical mentoring to junior engineers.
Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
U.S. Citizenship status is required.
Desired Skills:
Master’s or PHD in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
Current DoD Secret clearance.
Aircraft structural design, electronics structural design, and/or avionics platform integration structural design.
Experience with solid modeling CAD tool such as CREO or equivalent.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program.
A minimum of 14 years of related professional experience with a Bachelor’s in Engineering.
A minimum of 12 years of related professional experience with a Master’s in Engineering.
A minimum of 9 years of related professional experience with a PhD in Engineering.
