Organization Overview:

The Biotransformation group within Eli Lilly’s multidisciplinary DMPK organization is seeking a candidate to supervise and implement biotransformation studies in drug discovery and development. Responsibilities include conducting and overseeing in vivo and in vitro biotransformation investigations, interpreting results, and proposing/implementing experiments to address key mechanistic metabolism questions. Efficient communication with DMPK, project teams, and management is essential. Duties also involve guiding external (CRO) biotransformation studies, performing in-house non-routine laboratory work, and collaborating across DMPK disciplines. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in in vivo and in vitro biotransformation studies, including mass spectrometry, structure identification, sample extraction, and analytical method development.

Do you have experience with Met ID and biotransformation studies? Apply today and join the Lilly team!

Responsibilities:

  • Design, conduct and provide oversight (at CRO's) of “cold” and radiolabeled in vitro and in vivo biotransformation studies in discovery and development.

  • Use mass spectrometry to assess in vitro and in vivo biotransformation liabilities to inform drug design.

  • Design, conduct and guide critical problem-focused experiments involving sample extraction, separation techniques, LC/MS and radiometric metabolite profiling for the identification and quantification of drug candidates and metabolites from in vitro and in vivo biological matrices.

  • Evaluate and implement innovative technologies and strategies to evolve biotransformation capabilities.

  • Integrate data across teams to create a rational interpretation of drug metabolism/clearance.

  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment collaborating both internally and externally (CRO’s).

  • Author and review scientific reports and original scientific manuscripts.

  • Effectively communicate interpretation of results across DMPK, to project teams and to management.

Basic Requirements:

  • PhD in organic, medicinal, or analytical chemistry

  • 5+ years of biotransformation experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Detailed understanding of organic chemistry as it relates to biotransformation reaction mechanisms.

  • An understanding of regulatory guidances in biotransformation (ie. MIST, metabolite DDI, reactive metabolites).

  • Experience supporting new modalities (i.e. ADC’s, peptides, RNA, siRNA).

  • An understanding of clearance mechanisms, and enzymes involved in biotransformation.
