    Salary:

    This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $53,222. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

    Role Overview:

    The SCN Auditor is the primary contact for sponsoring organizations that have financial questions about the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child Nutrition Programs in Indiana. You will ensure audit and financial compliance for School and Community Nutrition (SCN) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Sponsors.

    Key outcomes for this role include:

  • Monitor sponsor compliance with applicable federal audit regulations and maintain records of audit compliance.

  • Assist sponsors with completing required financial documents for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

  • Assist sponsors and organizations with financial management questions related to their operations.

  • Assist agency staff with program reviews of sponsors, sponsor approval, renewal, and training.

  • Help agency staff to interpret financial statements from organizations and assist in approving sponsor budgets and financial statements.

  • Participate in special projects.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Provide CACFP staff and sponsors guidance on Federal financial requirements.

  • Review financial information for sponsors to determine financial viability.

  • Maintain a log of required audits. Track audits in the Federal Audit Clearinghouse and notify sponsors of requirements and due dates.

  • Review audits and work with program staff to determine if the findings require corrective action.

  • Request copies of sponsors’ corrective actions and notify audit staff when actions are completed.

  • Maintain filing system for USDA review.

  • Attend audit meetings at large sponsoring organizations.

  • Conduct budget and financial reviews as needed.

  • Develop and present training sessions for workshops and conferences.

  • Track and review vendor contracts.

  • Review procurement documents to ensure all required language is included in solicitations and contracts.

  • Develop correspondence, newsletter articles, email, or website updates as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:

Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in business administration, public administration, food service management, accounting, OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in another discipline plus four years of professional work experience in a related position and/or government program operations.

    Knowledge and skills:

  • Practical knowledge of procurement, purchasing and/or auditing.

  • Knowledge of USDA and state rules and regulations.

  • Considerable knowledge and experience with financial reporting and basic accounting skills.

  • Strong analytic and basic math skills.

  • Availability for occasional in-state travel.

  • Training and Technology skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of desktop software, including Adobe, MS Excel, Outlook, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint, at minimum.

  • Ability to analyze and model business processes and workflow and develop appropriate information resources.

  • Accuracy in data entry.

  • Accuracy with standard business math.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
