Job Summary
Position is responsible for daily supervision of sports, programs, services, and facilities at assigned park locations. Work related activities include all facets of recreational programming and service delivery. Established policies and procedures and the Department of Parks and Recreation rules and regulations control actions. Independent judgment may occur when deciding on programs and classes to offer, handling discipline problems, emergency situations and dealing with the public. Work is reviewed on a continuing basis by a supervisor who is generally available for detailed/general instructions. Position reports to the Park Manager.
Position Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Assists in development, planning, directing, implementation and coordinating a wide variety of recreational events
Follows established policies and procedures
Completes reports, inspections, and evaluations based on established guidelines. Uses software and variety of technology platforms to organize, document, track, and monitor work including, but not limited to, ActiveNet, Microsoft Office Suite, InforPS, Peoplesoft, and WebEx
Delivers excellent customer service to internal and external customers and established a professional rapport with all park users
Initiates new sports, aquatics, and recreation programs
Supports and assists customers while participating in activities such as sports, recreational, arts, fitness, and aquatic programs
Schedules classes and assists in planning
Supervises and coordinates recreational programs
Responsible for collecting, depositing, and securing park funds. May be required to fill out reports and forms
Attends meetings or training sessions as required
Supervises the use of supplies, equipment, and facilities
Sets up and break down for regular scheduled activities and events
Enforces rules and regulations
Assists with field and sports equipment maintenance including, but not limited to variety of sports playing fields (traditional and non-traditional sports), ice rinks, skate sharpening, operating a Zamboni and cricket cages
Responsible for cleanliness and general appearance of work site and provide a positive image between department and community. Maintains the facility and park grounds in an attractive manner
Opens and closes the facility and follows proper security measures to safeguard city assets
Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications
Must be self-motivated. Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet various deadlines. Ability to work productively under general supervision. Ability to work varied work schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays. General knowledge of sports, recreational games and arts and crafts. Ability to plan and organize activities. Ability to maintain discipline and supervise participants of all ages. Ability to follow all established policies and procedures. Must be people and community oriented and have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to obtain officials certification for recreation sports and crafts. Licenses/Certifications Required: Ability to CPR and First Aid Certificate, Indiana Public Passengers Chauffeurs License, NYSCA Clinician Certification.
Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred
