Position Summary

Position is responsible for providing assistance in management of aquatic programs, aquatic services, aquatic facilities, and aquatic personnel. Position requires ongoing coordination and cooperation with the Aquatic Supervisor and Park Manager to provide fun, safe, clean facility and staff.

Position Responsibilities

Maintains the highest attention to safety for participants and employees. Provides and coordinates proper on deck supervision of staff, appropriate levels of lifeguard coverage, lifeguard attentiveness, proper lifeguard rotations. Manages facility risk management inspections and procedures in accordance with established Department, regulatory, and industry standards and protocols.

Maintains and operates aquatic facility providing the highest attention to water quality and balance. Requires a thorough knowledge of pool and water chemistry and operations to include water testing and chemical applications, chemical controller calibration, set points and operation, chemical pump operation, back washing of pool filters, cleaning strainer baskets, slide and play feature motor operation, pool heater operation, pool vacuuming, vacuum operation and maintenance, chemical and supply ordering and inventory.

Works with the Aquatic Supervisor to recruit, hire, train, evaluate, discipline and advise on-site personnel, volunteers and contractors including Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards, and Cashiers. Maintains ongoing lifeguard in-service training.

Works with the Aquatic Supervisor to design and implement recreational programs in the core service areas of aquatics, youth and family and special needs programs. Assesses the recreational needs of the community, plans, designs, implements and evaluates aquatic programs and services at location in accordance with the Departmental and designated aquatic program guidelines and protocol.

Maintains detailed record keeping for in-service training, water testing, chemical applications, controller settings, pump, motor and filter pressure levels, third party and employee accident reports, critical incident and incident reports, cash reports, program registration and class lists and swim lesson records.

Assists with Department lifeguard training certification program.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required and one (1) year prior experience as a supervisor in Aquatic Operations. Minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching and supervising swim lessons, swim team, water aerobics, and other aquatic program. Minimum of one (1) year experience in training and supervising employees. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks. Ability to communicate effectively. Position will require a respiratory physical and fit test for chemical facemask, maintenance and chemical handling procedures training. Job Knowledge and experience in all facets of Aquatic Operations. Customer service and people oriented. Ability to follow established procedures, policies and protocol. Prefer Starfish Aquatic Institute certified Lifeguard Instructor and AFO/CPO certified. Valid Indiana operator's license required

Licenses/Certifications required or ability to obtain: StarGuard Lifeguard Instructor and Lifeguard License, CPR and First Aid Teaching Certificate, Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator Certification.

Independent Judgment

Established policies and procedures control actions. Independent judgment is utilized when there are no available policies and procedures and errors in judgment may cause serious risk and significant liability. Required to exercise good judgment in the areas of aquatic safety and facility operations. This position will require an individual who is able to make quick, concise and correct decisions that may affect the health, safety and well being of pool patrons and staff. This position will work under the supervision of an Aquatic Supervisor.
