Aerotek Kit Assembler in Indianapolis, Indiana

Job Title: Kit Assembler

Job Description

The Automated KIT Production department builds kits for clinical trials research, sample collection, testing, and other human sample collection. The 'Kit Cell' is a standing job where hires will stand for 12-hour shifts for the first 2-3 weeks. They will stand in their own individual space with a computer screen and about 200 small bins surrounding them. The computer will indicate the order, a red light will illuminate the location of the bin, and the builder will pick that item and pack it into the box. When the box is complete, they will carefully label the box correctly and put it onto a rolling conveyor that brings the box to shipping. These cells may not have an automated conveyor at times, and finished kits will be placed in a box/area to be picked up by a shipping person. This is a stationary and repetitive job. Candidates need to master both the quality and pace of the pick cell before moving to other areas.

Popular Pick is also a standing job but has a rotating 'wall' of bins that spin based on the next order needed to be packed. Kit Builders will stand at a station, and the computer will spin the wall to bring the correct bin right to the person. They will then pick and build the order.

On the mezzanine, there are sitting jobs near the labeling line packing instruction manuals and cubicle-like chair jobs building small batch custom orders by hand.

Kit builders, once trained, will enter a quarter rotation, moving from job to job every 3 hours. There will be times they stand for 6 hours in a shift, some days 9 hours, and some days they may sit for 9 hours. It is all a big rotation, so candidates need to be able to stand for up to 12 hours, but that will not be every day. This job is extremely simple but requires good attention to detail. Candidates are allowed to wear headphones in the pick cells only. The goal is for everyone to be cross-trained on the 5-6 jobs across the automation department eventually.

SHIFT: 6pm-6am, 2/2/3 rotating (2 paid breaks of 20 minutes + 1 paid lunch of 30 minutes). Start dates are every Thursday at 6pm for nights, with orientation and training for about 3.5 hours. Candidates will then return on Friday and work the entire weekend for their scheduled shift.

The work environment is very clean and organized, but definitely a production area. There is a constant hum, like a giant vacuum. People are allowed to wear one headphone at a time throughout automated KIT Production. It is set up like a small production facility with some conveyors but no heavy machinery as all kit building is done by hand. The area is temperature controlled and kept at 70 degrees or below. Candidates must wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Hot food cafeteria available for day shift.

No phones allowed. No food or drinks allowed unless a drink with a sealable lid. Candidates will get one warning on cell phone usage, and the second offense will result in automatic termination.
