Position Summary

Position is responsible for driving street sweeper equipment to clean and maintain City streets. Performs daily pre-operational inspection of equipment to ensure proper and safe operation of equipment. Performs daily after-operational inspection of equipment including washing and cleaning of equipment prior to end of shift.

Position Responsibilities

Performs daily pre-operational inspection of equipment to ensure proper and safe operation of equipment.

Performs daily After-operational inspection of equipment including washing and cleaning of equipment prior to end of shift.

Drives street sweeping equipment to clean streets of trash, debris, and other contaminants.

Fills, cleans, and drains water tanks as required.

Operates controls to activate rotary brushes and water spray to facilitate debris and dust collection.

Dumps collected refuse into piles, trucks, or container for disposal.

Performs minor maintenance on street sweeper: cleaning vehicle regularly, checking fluids and tire pressures.

Sweeps various park facilities.

Drives dump truck, picks up trash, and performs other minor grounds maintenance tasks as needed.

Removes ground trash and debris.

Drives and transports truck with trailer, work crews, and equipment.

May be required to drive truck with snow plow to clear streets of accumulated snow (when needed).

Ability to operate with a reasonable skill level: snow plows, salt spreaders, dump beds, air and hydraulic equipment and perform other duties assigned in the Operations Division such as, pothole repair, strip patching, concrete repair, crack sealing, alley maintenance and hauling, etc.

Qualifications

High School diploma or the equivalent. Knowledge of various street maintenance equipment, their use, and maintenance. Ability to operate street sweeper vehicle, dump truck, pickup truck, snow plow, and basic hand tools. Ability to know your location in relation to the environment or to know where other objects are in relation to you and the vehicle. Ability to work in safe and efficient manner. Preferred a valid Class "A" CDL license with Tanker endorsement. Required Class "B" CDL License, with a requirement to have a Class "A" License within six months of hiring. The ability to pass a pre-employment driving physical. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds or more and have the ability to operate equipment to which assigned is required.

Independent Judgment

Follows supervisor's general instructions, Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Act Regulations and established procedures to complete standardized tasks. Decisions may occur when determining the proper sequence of steps or when making minor variation from establishing methods.
