Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Environmental Specialist position in the Infrastructure Market Unit in our Indianapolis, Indiana office.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

Responsible for preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)-related environmental documents including categorical exclusions, environmental assessments and environmental impact statements and interfacing with various state and federal resource agencies. The candidate will also be responsible for conducting field surveys for threatened and endangered species habitat, wetlands, streams and tree identification. This position will require the preparation of permit applications and determinations/delineations for wetlands and other environmental resources to support environmental permitting.

Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent technical writing capabilities

  • Proficiency in computer skills and GIS

Soft Skills:

  • Must exhibit excellent attention to details

  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills

  • Must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external client bases

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology or Environmental-related field required

  • A Master’s degree in the environmental field preferred

  • Minimum of 0-8 years of NEPA and/or Section 404 permitting experience preferred

  • Experience in INDOT NEPA documentation preferred

  • Completion of a wetland delineation training course preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Candidate must be willing to accept out-of-town travel assignments

  • Collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices

  • Must be willing to work overtime to meet project demands when needed
