About the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR):

The Indiana Department of Revenue team is comprised of over 700 staff that are located in 13 locations across the state of Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and a variety of tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws. DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue. Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws in a fair, secure, and efficient manner.

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $55,224. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Role Overview:

The Data Analyst Associate uses considerable judgment in selecting the most pertinent guidelines to follow. Work is broad in scope and requires in-depth analysis of multiple variables to fit various circumstances of a medium to complex enterprise-wide system. The Data Analyst works closely with higher-level staff and/or management to outline general objectives and boundaries that this role will follow to meet the requirements of the agency. Unusual problems or deviations from guidelines or practice are discussed with the manager at the discretion of the individual. Work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and compliance with policy and practice.

This position requires you to be in the office three (3) days each week, accompanied by two (2) remote days that will be scheduled with the supervisor.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Assist with transferring raw data to the appropriate location for use in data analysis projects;

  • Utilize existing documentation and guidance from senior staff to ensure the validity and accuracy of agency datasets before use in analysis and reporting.

  • Contribute to the general analysis of agency datasets.

  • Interpret data from multiple sources using a variety of analytical techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to data mining to supporting statistical methodologies.

  • Develop compelling data visualizations to communicate findings and propose adjustments to target audience(s).

  • Adhere to HIPAA, PII, PHI, and other state statutes concerned with protecting data confidentiality and individual privacy.

  • Utilize data to identify opportunities for process improvements and enhanced customer experiences.

What You'll Need for Success:

Credentials:

  • An Associate’s Degree or at least 2+ years of experience in a role that applies the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.

  • Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.

    Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with data manipulation, including cleansing, standardizing, and transforming.

  • Knowledge of statistical software, open-source programming languages, and database querying or demonstrated ability to learn.

  • Experience with SQL, Tableau, R, Python, PowerBI, and/or ArcGIS.

  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Broad knowledge of data analysis, analytics, and statistics or demonstrated ability to learn.

  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and fluid demands.

  • Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to present data in a manner that presents opportunities for agency teams to enhance, modify, and/or adjust processes to improve the customer experience.

  • Demonstrate a curiosity to explore opportunities for process improvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
