Flynn Restaurant Group Safety Manager in INDEPENDENCE, Ohio

Position Description

The Safety Manager will provide support to ensure the health and safety of employees and customers across all brands and locations within the Flynn Group. This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Compliance and Team Experience in the maintenance and improvement of the Flynn Group corporate safety programs. This role involves implementing and enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations. Provide recommendations for program priorities based on analysis of loss data and injury trends. Acts as a resource for developing safety related training, materials, programs, and presentations. Position interfaces with all levels of personnel in addressing safety questions, explaining results of risk analysis, and acting as a partner for all other safety related projects.

Essential responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and lead companywide safety programs designed to reduce risk and ensure a safe experience for our employees and guests

  • Oversee Safety Committee Compliance meetings, notes, agendas

  • Maintain documentation and conduct compliance training including mandated annual trainings and safety programs by state

  • Provide tools and recommend trainings to assist with adherence to safety regulations and standards within Operations

  • Administration of proactive safety program including making product recommendations to Operations, identifying common safety issues, recommending training to Operations, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations as it pertains to employee and guest safety

  • Conduct industry research per state to determine OSHA, DOL regulations and applicable safety compliance laws

  • Draft policies, trainings and communication plans as needed for the industry due to new and updated laws

  • Author and editor of existing safety compliance policies – determine which ones need to be reviewed, revised and appropriate cadence

  • Conduct reviews of workplace incidents ensuring proper documentation, reporting, and corrective actions

  • Make required reports to OSHA related to injuries, handle investigation and provision of required information to OSHA; make recommendations to Operations related to outcomes; address any required remediation

  • Maintain all required OSHA reporting logs in compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Maintain a high level of visibility into safety related risks to all key stakeholders

  • Develop, track and report on key KPIs to leadership to ensure full visibility into trends, costs, etc.

  • Identifies, and reports causes of past incidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrence

Desired Skills and Experience

  • College degree and related safety certifications strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in the safety field, including: experience with OSHA regulations with the ability to execute understanding for OSHA inspections, injury reporting, program compliance, program development, loss analysis, and safety committees.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, standards, and best practices

  • Prior experience working in the food and/or service industry.

  • Ability to effectively work with and communicate safety initiatives to all levels of the organization.

  • Strong computer and analytical skills, with the ability to exercise self-direction and initiative, and make decisions in a fast-paced changing work environment.

  • Ability to multi-task on projects

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Proven ability for team participation including ability to implement efficient work processes, problem prevention identification and resolution skills.

  • Flexibility for meeting multiple demands and ability to utilize and effective time management planning process.
