Burrell Behavioral Health Assistant Director of Adult Community Services in Independence, Missouri

Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Adult Community Services provides oversight for community-based services including but not limited to: The Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation program, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, DM3700, CMHT & OSMI Programs, Forensic Clients and community partnerships. This position also engages in data collection, program evaluation, monitors key performance indicators, clinical development and planning, interdepartmental collaboration and projects as assigned or deemed necessary by the department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise the supervisors of the community-based teams. Oversee productivity expectations for these teams. Monitor program requirements and chart deficiencies. Provide ongoing training/coaching to team supervisors through a trauma-informed lens. Provide guidance for and witness to HR issues such as interviewing for open positions, counseling and discipline, and leave.

  • Within limits of experience, educational background, and the system’s time commitments, presents educational material to promote community understanding of mental health and to enhance community response to mental health problems. Participates in Training of Trainers’ sessions as deemed necessary by the System Director of Community Services.

  • Carries a limited caseload, as needed, to provide individual, group and family therapy utilizing his/her experience and ability to meet the needs of the client and the goals of treatment, and engages in any other activities that meet those needs and goals.

  • Is responsive to all Quality Assurance procedures of the system, cooperates with utilization review procedures, and follows established procedures, rules and regulations of the Clinical Records Department.

  • Participates in and contributes to the various staff development activities of the system. Identifies training needs for case management staff; create training to meet needs; and provides ongoing training to Adult Services Department. Implements trainings in conjunction with the System Director of Community Services.

  • Participates in emergency services in order to provide rapid aid in cases of emotional crisis.

  • According to the system’s guidelines, participates in staffing of clients to identify problems and establish goals and objectives for treatment and assumes management responsibilities for cases assigned.

  • Is sensitive and responsive to management needs, such as data collection, program evaluation, development of grant applications, maintenance of various contracts for services, etc.

  • Performs other special functions as assigned or deemed necessary by the department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of crisis intervention, communication skills and family system methods.

  • Extensive skills in adult behavior and assessment.

  • Extensive skills and knowledge in adult treatment planning and the ability to work with service providers, both internally and externally to the agency.

  • Shall be able to follow direction and accept supervision.

  • Be able to establish effective relationships and demonstrate exceptional customer services skills via telephone, email and in-person interactions.

  • Must have a willingness to lead by example and to reflect on and further develop leadership qualities.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Current Missouri license (Psychologist, LCSW, LPC, PLCSW, or PLPC) – Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or related field – Preferred

Supervisory Requirements:

  • Communicate the strategic direction of the organization and encourage participation by all team members.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all aspects of the department.

  • Take an active role in monitoring the identification, development, and execution of strategic objectives.

  • Involve, as appropriate, all team members to achieve goals.

  • Effectively communicate to team members any changes and newsworthy events within the department or company.

  • Handle difficult team member situations directly, using appropriate discretion and Human Resource advice to show respect for the individual

  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.

  • Reinforces team approach throughout functions; support and solicit input from team members at all levels within the company.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
