This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.

This position will be located in Northern Idaho and work fully remote.

The Regional Director for North Idaho provides direct support to N. Idaho school leader and oversight of the state’s initiatives in Regions I & II. The person serves as a locally-known (and trusted) resource, responsible for communicating and facilitating the SDE’s goals in north Idaho. This individual serves as a liaison between SDE leadership and school leadership

The Regional Director for North Idaho works with each department at the SDE to answer questions and facilitate discussion between school leaders and SDE experts in each department.

This is a full-time position serving under an appointment of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Travel to each LEA and charter school in N. Idaho, providing direct support to school leaders in the building(s).

• Interview school leaders to better understand how the SDE can better support the work of schools in N. Idaho

• View (firsthand) the condition of school facilities, and assist (answer questions) schools with completing state-required facility documents and support schools (answer questions & provide guidance) as they access and spend dollars associated with I.C. 33-911 and 33-917

• Identify best (classroom/education) practices implemented in the LEA, to share with other LEA’s to promote collaboration and high-performing schools. Connect and partner high-performing LEAs with other LEAs in the region/area: Sharing best practices and training Idaho leaders in leadership practice focused on to student achievement

• Attend monthly regional superintendent meetings in N. Idaho: Provide SDE updates

• Attend regional principal meetings each month, in Regions I & II

• Facilitate charter school collaboration – support bridging ‘the gap’ between Idaho leaders in our charter schools and traditional districts.

• Field questions from superintendents. Connect with SDE staff to support school leader. Work with SDE leadership to answer follow-up questions

• Support and the work of the Idaho Principal Network and Idaho Superintendent Network. Attend IPN and ISN to support SDE staff and school leadership.

• Assist with statewide mentoring program of new superintendents (ISMP) and assist with annual statewide new superintendent training (Boise, in August).

• Assist with monthly Just in Time (JIT) trainings to support Idaho school leaders

• Attend partner conferences such as IASA, ISBA, etc.

• Represent the SDE in various committees and work groups, supporting Idaho education.

• Attend and support the work of SDE conferences in Regions I & II

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 3 years supervisory and/or administrative experience in Idaho schools as a superintendent or charter school administrator;

• Experience with program management, planning and coordinating multiple programs and projects;

• Demonstrated experience interpreting federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and policies and advising Idaho schools on their requirements;

• Ability to develop, implement, and manage program budgets and funding;

• Experience leading Professional Learning Communities and effective school-wise interventions;

• Ability to lead and mentor school leaders;

• Demonstrated knowledge of latest research in providing effective school improvement systems;

• Experience in planning and presenting information to the public

• Occasional lifting may be required, frequently less than 5 lb., but may be up to 20 lb.

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

This position requiresup to50% travel time in and out of the state for various program activities.

Vesting in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI): All employees of the Idaho Department of Education are non-classified. They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency.

Tuition Fee Waiver: All Idaho Department of Education employees in permanent full-time positions may register for instructional courses during any academic period, at any participating state funded institutions of higher education, for a $20.00 nonrefundable registration fee per semester and $5.00 per credit hour charge.
