The Microsoft Cloud for Sovereignty team is a globally distributed engineering team aiming to bring the power of the Microsoft Public Cloud to the unique challenges of public sector workloads that must adhere to government compliance & security requirements. Combining the flexibility and scale of public clouds such as Azure with needs for data residency, guardrails, policies, and security, our multi-disciplinary team-members contribute directly to Microsoft’s mission to empower every organization on the planet to achieve more.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us on the journey of delivering the building blocks for digitally transforming sovereign workloads across the world. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

We are looking for passionate people with experience working across all aspects of building high-throughput and multi-tenant services to join our product architecture group. Are you curious about exploring and prototyping new and trending technologies (i.e., Large Language Models, Confidential Computing & GPUs) in the context of regulated industries and do you feel excited about helping to prepare the future product architecture for these trends? And are you eager to collaborate with the engineering crews on preparing architecture decisions for our products to meet security, compliance, reliability, and scalability needs? If yes, and if you are able to write clean, well-factored, testable, maintainable, and scalable code the move forward, apply and join our team!

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with engineering crews on architecture designs for meeting security & compliance needs.

• Collaborate with engineering crews on architecture designs for meeting scale & performance needs.

• Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to understand customer requirements & technology-trends.

• Work with stakeholders to translate customer requirements and trends into future product priorities.

• Prototype and iterate on new components and customer-innovation focused features.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate prototyping results into actionable product specifications.

• Design and develop highly scalable, secure, reliable, and composable services and components.

• Use product development proven practices and deliver on scale and performance requirements.

• Contribute to continuous improvements, including metrics & test automation of deliverables.

• Maintain operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

Mentoring and coaching of earlier-in-career peers and team members.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications ( From Role Library, plus any other HM-determined qualifications)

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience coding in one of these languages: C#, Java or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• 4+ years of experience building highly available, resilient services on cloud platforms, i.e. Azure, AWS or GCP.

• 4+ years of experience with designing globally available, secure, and compliant (cloud) services.

• 3+ years working in customer facing roles to collect & translate customer needs into solution architectures.

• 2+ years of experience working with AI infused services, i.e. Cognitive Services, OpenAI or comparable.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Passionate communication and presentation skills

• Interest or experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques and technologies

• Experience working with customers in regulated industries, i.e. FSI, Defense & Security, or Public Sector

• Experienced with technical design, problem solving, and debugging

• Experience monitoring, testing and supporting online services

• Familiarity with Infrastructure Automation of any form (Scripting PowerShell/Bash, ARM, Bicep, Terraform)

• Interest in improving engineering systems & practices and creation of high quality software

• Empathy and passion for collaborating and helping & growing peers with different backgrounds and culture
