Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) with four (4) years’ training in college level business administration and/or experience related to the maintenance of equipment contracts

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the review, administration and monitoring of warranty systems to include experience in successfully developing, implementing and managing equipment warranty programs

Certification/Licensure

  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s permit issued from jurisdiction of residence

Preferred

  • Experience

  • Experience on maintenance of equipment and/or service contracts in a quality assurance or warranty field

  • Experience in the interpretation of contractual warranty clauses and the application of performance specifications and data to evaluate equipment operations

Job Summary

The Warranty Management Specialist is responsible for implementing and administering a program designed to control and ensure the proper utilization of all warranty provisions. This function is associated with the acceptance and operation of new facilities and equipment for the organizational unit to which it is assigned. The Warranty Management Specialist also works with maintenance units and manufacturers/suppliers to accomplish strict adherence to operational provisions.

Essential Functions

  • Advises maintenance units on the proper interpretation and application of warranty clauses.

  • Monitors spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets. Analyzes expenditures and other financial information. Analyzes warranties for violations and to ensure that the warranty is supported by the established provisions.

  • Authorizes capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property. Authorizes fulfillment of contracts with equipment or materials suppliers.

  • Collaborates with other managers or staff members. Consults with maintenance engineers for technical determinations.

  • Develops and implements a warranty program for the rail system equipment used to support metro rail operations. Directs investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.

  • Ensures that facilities are put through periodic tests prior to termination of the warranty to identify any problems. Identifies program failures and forwards data to supervisor.

  • Maintains operations records of specific warranties and items covered by these provisions.

  • Measures the performance of equipment over the length of the warranty. Monitors operations to ensure that staff members comply with policies and regulations.

  • Prepares documentation to be forwarded to the supplier for repairs, exchanges, or other maintenance actions. Assists maintenance units in the proper application of warranty provisions.

  • Provides information to the appropriate Contracting Office on the warranty program. Recommends corrective measures to improve performance of the warranty program.

  • Reviews maintenance repair records and warranty claims. Reviews warranty and reliability documentation that accompanies WMATA purchases. Reviews warranty provisions stipulated in requests for proposals to verify that the guidelines of WMATA will be met.

  • Visits field sites as necessary to review maintenance measures taken to comply with the warranty program.

  • Sets operations policies and standards.
